But the discution is on a new CivIV with 3D graphics.
A lot of strategics games use 3D engines.
What kind of 3D graphics do you expect ?
For the maps, unities, cities, wonders ?
It would be good if 3D units were used WITH weapons separate from the main unit graphic, so you could easily upgrade a Bow and Arrow to Musket, and have it easier to draw them, then you could use the same weapon gfx on a mounted horse rider. You could also have each Culture type have a different body or flag model.
I'm talking about multiple object units, such as a tank turret on a tank body which can rotate separately.
It would be great if this could be done like Alpha Centauri, where the player can design the units from component bits.. deciding if it has tracks, wheels, horses for power. Decide different armor types.. different power types etc.
This also allows far more units, and saves memory.
I would rather have a few custom designed good units than hundreds of un-manageable basic units.
It would be nice to see bullets and shells from artilerry etc shown properly.. flying to the target over 4 squares, maybe bouncing once or ricocheting.
A good thing would be to have 3d graphics so you can zoom in close to actually see the battles better.
It would be nice to see buildings and roads exploding .
I'd clearly not buy the game if it doesn't run on my computer, and won't buy it if it's 3D. 3D for strategy games is crap, leave it to CAD.

So, 3D cards with 16/32 (and more) video RAM, and a good processor are requirded for modern games.
and some of us no longer buy games because of that reason.
If Civ IV has the same system reqs for the Sims, that's an appropriate level that most people possess on their computers- any more limits the audience and the possible salability.
besides 3D-graphics look horrible. Civ I, II graphics were far better than Civ III's.

Most people today(gaming) have a GHz computer and lots of RAM. That will be even more a fact when this game comes out. Therefore I presume a vast improvment of graphics, both to please us, and to please the new costumers. After all, Soren have stated that gaining new players is a must. Now, SimCity cities isa to take it a bit far...

Didn't know if I should start a new thread and didn't bother to search if this has been proposed before, but this place seemed as good as any...
When entering the city view by clicking a city on the map I would like to feel if I zoomed into the city and gradually saw more details of it (houses, improvements etc.) and when exiting zooming out to the main map view, all seamlessly. The city view of civ1 could be as a working example, but with nice integration with the main map.
