  • Awesome awesome news. I like the nation flags - wonder if they'll have (subtly) different flags for different eras?

It'd make sense for early flags to be a piece of cloth on a stick, with modern flags looking like actual flags.

Huh? You could zoom all the way out.

      • That was some great pics. I liked the zoomed out screenie too.

RE: religion: I wonder if the city to first "discover" a religion will become some sort of holy city? And when we're into religion: I see from one of the pics that hinduism is discovered, and one has a choice to swich to it as state religion(at least that is how I understood it). But if it's just discovered, it would probably only be a minority, right? Why would I want to swich at once, before it has had time to spread?

          • Awesome news. The fact that we can zoom really far out is good, settles my concern about having a too close-up look like in RTS games. The rest of news sound ssimply great, too. Love the Egyptian flag.

25 civic choices is good, definitely beats having 6 governments. SMAC had 4 SE categories with 3 choices in each, theoretically offering 81 choice, but not each faction could choose every of those, and the fourth SE category came into the game very late, basically leaving you with around 18 choices altogether.

I hope the AI will be able to deal with all of these concepts fairly well.

If you consider Islam, it was founded and became a state religion almost immediately, so it certainly makes sense that the option be available. Now, at that time the religion would only be present in the founding city so it would have little effect to make it a state religion immediately?

              • Maybe if it's a state religion it's more likely to spread to other cities in your empire?

                • Probably state religion has a happiness effect. That it, citizens of the same religion as your state religion are more happy, while other citizens may feel opressed or something.

Yeah, we know that much, but then it wouldn't make sense to switch to a new state religion right after it's founded...

                    • Maybe to piss off a neighbour civ by having a different religion than them .

                      • That would hardly make any sense.

Yeah from the little information we have it seems it'll never be worth to switch to another state religion than your first one.
