    Civs agree to reduce pollution to certain levels within 20 turns (e.g. 20 triangles max). Failure to do so will result in fines. Failure to ratify treaty will result in poorer attitude from other civs.

    Absolutely - there needs to be more emphasis on environmental issues in the later game. At the moment you're actively encouraged to cut down all the rainforests, with no negative effects at all.

      I think that to limit this strictly to environmental treaties isn't a global view. This thread could rightly be about treaties in general. They could be triggered in certain circumstances or from a player I guess.

      It could be demilitarization treaties, liberalization treaties, environmental treaties, "helping others" treaties (UNICEF...), etc.

        True, but what irritates me is that the AI keeps polluting the world with their supersized cities and cause global warming in my lands. There should be something to stop them besides wiping them off the face of the planet.
