  • Is it possible to set Ages to play within?

I have looked all through the Creation Forum, may be here, I have missed it though.

For those of you who have played Call To Power, you could say play a game in only the ancient era or just the Modern Era.

This was what I was looking for if it was possible in Warlords?

    Thanks for any/all help

You can choose a starting era in "custom game", but if you want to prevent any civilization from advancing beyond a specific era, you need to mod the XML to disable the advances yourself.

Has anyone done this, I was interested in a sorta easy way around, so I dont mess up core game files.

Anyone who could help, maybe with a template would be great!

      and most appreciated

Editing the XML to get any degree of generality would be a major pain in the neck.

        So, Happy Birthday Gramps.

I knocked off a mod for you. Unzip 'GrampsMod' into ..\Warlords\Mods. When you start a game, as suggested choose the starting era in the custom game screen. Unless you choose the last available era, you'll then get a popup asking you to choose an end era (which can be the same as the start era).

BTW, this is a bit of of a kludge because the obvious thing to do would have been to modify from the custom game screen. But that's hidden away in the executable so you get a popup instead.

        Apparently, this is a link:

I could just hug you, but per plea agreements no physical contact with any.....

          I mean thanks a bunch!

So I simply let it install or do I have to designate a location?

          Thanks again!!

It's just a zip so extract to (if you've got Warlords installed in it's normal location):

            C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Mods

When you start a game, from the Main Menu choose "Advanced" and then "Load a Mod". This will bring up the "Load a Mod" screen with a list of mods on the left side of the screen. You choose "GrampsMod" and wait for the mod to load. When it's loaded you'll see a Main Menu screen but with "GrampsMod" in the top right corner.

So you choose "Single Player" and then "Custom Game" to set the start era (any anything else you might want to set). Then "Launch" the game and when it starts you'll get a "Choose End Era" popup that allows you to set the end era.

BTW, I included the changed source files in the zip for anyone who's interested.

I went to one of those Japanese places for my birthday dinner a couple of months ago. It was great fun.

I haven't tested this code all that thoroughly so it's possible that some bugs could pop up later on.

                  Anyway, have fun.

I noticed it works well except it doe not allow science to be researched (or at least it is not shoiwng any option at top middle of screen

Just to share, at first i thought maybe because I was playing Modern era only, but could not build tanks.

Then I started a game with Renaissance and maxing out at Modern, still not possible

I've uploaded a new version to the link in post #4.

                      Hopefully, this should do it.
