• Empire splits like in CIV1

Has anyone already tried (and succeeded!) to implement in vanilla or warlords this famous CIV1 feature which allowed to split an enemy empire in two factions (loyalists and rebels) after you took his capital ?

That was a lot of fun in CIV1.

I don't see the level of complexity of such a feature? simple? hard? very hard?

Civ2 had the same feature, and I miss it too. It's in one of my modding plans, but I yet to get started. I'll let you know how it goes, when I do. It shouldn't be too hard, once I can work out what commands actually do what (no thanks to the available documentation).

I think one of the Civ IV devs released a partially-complete revolutions mod. That was many months ago, though, so it might take some effort to find it.

Edit: That was easier to find than I had expected:

(I did a search for 'revolution' and 'mod' in the creation & files forum for posts older than 6 months, sorted in ascending order by date/time of posting.)

Actually the mod delivered by Trip is quite different of the feature we were describing with MMC.

In former CIV when you took an important city (capital only? can't remember) of one your most advanced foe (leading in score AFAIK), you could provoke a split of his WHOLE EMPIRE in two parts! That meant the emergence of a whole new civ (the rebel faction) getting roughly half of the cities owned by your foe who kept the other half (loyalist faction).

Such a potential blast hanging on your opponents (and yourself!) was of course a very interesting strategic aspect of the game.

The great thing was there was a chance that either both factions would hate you, or the break away faction would love you (almost to the point of becoming a willing vassel if it happened in Warlords).

Well back to the subject (modding this in CIV4), I was thinking that creating a new civ on-the-go, initializing its diplomacy, gold, research, civics and everything else will sure prove to be quite of a headache.

As for the events triggering the split, that should be easier:

Compare score between the attacking party and the defending one => split can occure only if defender's score is higher than the attacker's.
Determine if the city being attacked has the capital status
Perhaps we should include a condition on pre-existing unrest: let's say that if the difference between citizen and citizen should be at least 10%
What of that?
