  • Smart Map Quirk

copied from the original in Civ IV Help forum:

When I generate a map using Planet type, and using somewhat rounded, few fragments, I get weird continents that are in the shape of squares and rectangles mushed together.

I don't like them -- they just look too unrealistic and strange. Has anyone found a way to generate more realistic-shaped continents using Planet type?

I'm very happy with least round, some fragments. I also use the few lakes option.

Maybe I should try a few different setting options but I just wanted to know if I'm the only one who gets these weird cube/rectangle shpaed continents with long, perfectly straight coastlines with smaller squares or rectangles jutting out as "peninsulas."

Stop using Smartmap and use Tectonics instead. It generates better looking "realistic" maps. Smartmap is better for balanced gameplay.

Which thread provides more information about Tectonics. Who is the author of it, and which thread could I find a link to Tectonics?

            thanks

I had to dig down pretty far to find it...
