I'd like to make my own map, but I have no idea how, aside from using the in-game worldbuilder and saving it as a savegame. Where do I start? Thanks for any help.

You can also use WorldPainter
It has everything except for rivers and I'm working on those right now.
I will also be adding a "painting" function that will allow you to paint land and water and so forth for a much easier experience.
