  • Nargulok's Earth Map

The map you have been waiting for!

Its the first version of my map, so far testing is needed on resource requirments. I'm not sure if I need more or less.

Its a 218 by 102 Titan sized map. My computer runs it fine, 1 gig Ram 3.0 ghz P4 and a 200 gig hd with a ATI 9800 pro.

If you use the map for a mod or anything please just reference me as the maps creator. Thanks!

You can download the map here!

You can see a picture of it here

    Thanks

    Just some thoughts,

I Made Europe bigger to accomidate for the civs in Europe. The map has all 18 civs however it features the leaders I chose, if you would like you can open the file with wordpad and edit what civs and leaders you want.

I've played several games in europe and you can settle anywhere from 5 to 8 cities from your initial location depending on how you place your cities. That includes Spain France England Rome Germany and Greece.

Asia is mostly baren so Russia Mongolia and China don't get massivly strong. While they can get strong they won't become too strong. Japan can settle around 6 or 7 cities too on their island as well.

    Thanks!

Love the map, however the big problem I have with it is the fact that these barbarians are absolutely insane. I played as the U.S. and found that my entire early game is spent trying to defend against barbs. This would be the only reason that I stopped playing that game. I would suggest, since it is such a big map, to just add about 2 or 3 new civs in the Americas, i.e. The souix (however you spell that) in order to drive down the huge amount of barbarians. Also this allows for even greater realizism that I think you were looking for. Otherwise very nice map.

P.S. Map runs great on my 1.7ghz AMD, 2gig ddr ram, radeon 9550. Great work so far, love to finish up a game with it, so pleeez add those civs in america.

              Sioux
              Apache
              Cherokee

are the few I can think of right now

I downloaded and played map, but when I discovered Judiasm, and tried to build the super building in the holy city, the computer forgot that it was my city that found judiasm. weird, huh?

Hmm well I'm not real familiar with creating civs.

Thanks for the complements guys, glad you like it.

I agree that barbarians would probably be a problem in the america's. I tend to play in the European area.

Not sure why you had the religion error j1sharb.

Sorry I can not be of more help, I'm not very technical, merely someone who was looking for a extreamly large earth map but couldnt find one.

40 seconds how late in the game? Before 1 AD that would definitely be slow, but it's pretty fast for the Industrial/Modern ages.

Whatever happened to EL Mency? He was the god of earth maps to me.
"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." -- JFK Inaugural, 1961
"Extremism in the defense of liberty is not a vice." -- Barry Goldwater, 1964 GOP Nomination acceptance speech (not George W. Bush 40 years later...)

                            Hoonak,

No i did not use python, I only used the map editor that came with the game, at first it seemed daunting and clunky but once I became familiar with how it worked it was easy. I previously created my own maps for Civ 3 but never released them because others had released quality maps like El Mency. I got civ 4 on its release date and quickly gave up on the map editor in the game hoping someone else would be able to master it and create a map that was large enough to my liking. That never happened so I eventually took the time to do it myself, and since no other maps of this size were released I thought I would share.
