  • Ideas for future civ games

I have an idea in which sport could play a part in future installements. Sport has played apart in history for centuries. Generally people love sport.
My idea is that a certain technology would discover a sport and when that sport is discovered, it can be spread, like religion along trade routes. You could create a football stadium and wonders like Lords cricket ground. You would get pop ups about your national team playing other teams. It could bring in lots of commerce when you host tournaments and every now and then, a type of great leader called a sporting hero would appear (only if you have stadiums etc) and he could be added to a city to increase the commercial output.

and what about the Olympic Games within Civ IV ?
In all that we undertake it is necessary to give two thirds to the mind and the other third randomly. Increase the first fraction and you will become pusillanimous, increase the second and you will be reckless.

It depends on whether you want the Anicent Olympics or the Modern Olympics. As a World Wonder, the Ancient Olympics would probably enforce a cease fire for all civilizations at war with the owner of the Olympics for a few turns every so often (to represent the sacred truce and suspension of war that the Greeks observed during the Games). The Modern Olympics would probably require Mass Media and would give you a trade bonus and a regard bonus from other civs.

Anyway, having sports act like religion would kind of not really add anything new to the game unless it included international championships of some sort (and some way for the player to influence his team's chances of success).

There is already a sporting arena in the game, that is what a coloseum is supposed to represent. Itd be nice to be able to occasionally have massive sporting events that add to your commerce, but it would be more realistic for them to add happiness. The olympics cannot be realistically portrayed in civ either, wonders can only be built once (or once per civ for national wonders) and every olympics has a new location and building.

          Olympic Coloseum
First availabe: Industrialism (The modern olympics were around before radio or television was mainstream)
          Benefits: +1 commerce +3 happy +1 health
with mass media: +2 happy in every civilization's cities with mass media, relations +2 with every nation with mass media (the olympics brings civilizations closer together), no benefits when any civilizations are at war. (Olympics ended when world war 2 happened and resumed afterwards)
          Helps spread state religion.

^^ Im pretty sure these arent that powerful of stats for a modern age wonder, especially since its a double edged sword that helps your enemies potentially (although it lets you have higher relations as well.) I am also not sure how much culture it would provide, but it should be substantial.
