  • [Mod] Removed Global Warming, Reduced Bomb Shelters and SDI

The most enjoyable part of many Civ games for me is the use of nuclear weapons. The original settings in Civ 4 completely ruin any enjoyment with over powered SDI, Bomb Shelters, and Global Warming that never ceases even if only one nuke has been used. Perhaps the tree huggers at Firaxis had these settings for some real play balance issues but they bug me. Thankfully they are easy enough to change.

I did not enhance nukes at all, I just reduced the effects of Bomb Shelters from 75 to 25% and SDI from 75% to 33%. For now I believe I have removed Global Warming entirely by setting it to 0. I may increase this later to see how it plays out but for now I'm not 100% sure that Global Warming won't happen although I did test it with a massive nuclear exchange and there was no sign of global warming. The buildings have been altered for sure.

The zip file contains a readme there also I explain where to find the settings in case you want them to be different from what I have chosen.

    Three files are changed:

    XML\GlobalDefines.XML
    XML\Buildings\CIV4BuildingInfos.XML
    XML\Gameinfo\Civ4ProjectInfo.XML
    Attached Files

Yeh as it stands Nukes are a final few turn emergency points reducer. This might make em useful in conquest type games that arent that close to beein over.

I'd also like to mention that in the file GlobalDefines.XML you can change the terrain type global warming turns into. By default it is set as desert but could be changed to grasslands, ocean, or any other terrain type.

I think the AI will use nukes if they would just build them. I have never seen the AI build nukes but if you give them nukes with the editor they will use them without hesitation.

I have been searching for a modifier which could adjust the frequency of AI building nukes but no success so far.
