  • How do i edit XML?

Ok, so how exactly do i EDIT the XML files?

I know where they are, i can figure out what i want changed, but how do i go about it?

If i open it up, the XML file, it's an HTML format that i cannot change. I tried opening with Microsoft Word, but i get an error (Missing piece line 7 column 60) or something.

    HELP please! thanx

    lots of options

Here's the simplest (works on at least windows xp):

Right click one XML file. Choose menu option: 'open with', then choose menu option: 'Choose Program', then select notepad as the program, and finally check the box that says 'always use the selected program ...', then click OK.

This will cause XML files to be opened for edit in notepad when you double click them.

Now notepad is kind of ugly for editing XML. There are far better choices. I use IntelliJ IDEA, and if you are rich (as it costs $250), that is the choice of kings (I have it free through work). There are many other editors, some free, which will also edit XML better than notepad. One example is eclipse:

The Eclipse Foundation provides our global community of individuals and organisations with a mature, scalable, and business-friendly environment for open source …

Now both IDEA and Eclipse are general programmer development environments, and may be intimidating to a non-programmer. If that's you, you'll probably just want to find a XML only editor, in which case perhaps this will help you:

XMLFox free xml/xsd editor. XML Converter, convert xml, free xml & xsd editor, xsd schema: xml to excel

I make no guarantees on those, they were just the top google hits for 'freeware xml editor'.

    Good Luck!

If you're just after a general better-than-notepad text editor.

EditPad Lite: A fine text editor with all the necessary basic features. Free for non-commercial use. An ideal replacement for Notepad.
