  • At the level of moron I must ask for assitance

I would like to alter somet things in Civ4, obviosuly through a mod.
I've tried Civ4 Test Cost Editor which is quite useful, but I would still like to extend the amount of turns. I am worried about really screwing up any files so could someone please tell me which directory and which file and how to alter it in simple terms? Not too simple obviously. I am an adult. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

As well I've downloaded mod Resources_V2.1 and Gamespeedtuner1[1].1. I'd like to add these in, but again I'm wary of doing it quite wrong. Could someone be ever so helpful and give me some sort of step by step instructions. I'm not a complete moron, just partially. I know where to go in My Computer(using windows xp) and program files and so forth. Just worried about which files in which directories to put these and how to alter and so forth.

So any help would greatly be appreciated.

So Marathon speed is still too fast for you?

      Ok, specifically:

The game gets installed to something like:
      "C:\Program Files\Civilization 4"

In that directory there is an "Assets" folder, and in that one there is an "XML" folder. There are a bunch of subdirectories in that folder (as well as files). For the files it sounds like you are looking for, you want the "GameInfo" folder.

So you should now be at:
      "C:\Program Files\Civilization 4\Assets\XML\GameInfo"

Now, most importantly, you do not want to modify the files in this directory. What you want to do is copy them to the appropriate folder at:
"C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\My Documents\My Games\Civilization 4\CustomAssets\XML\GameInfo" (where the 'YourName' will be the name you log in to windows)

Why do you do this? Because the game will look in the "CustomAssets" location before it looks at the "Assets" location. And this way you don't change the original files.

So, for example, you can make a copy of the "CIV4GameSpeedInfo.xml" file. When you run the editor ("Gamespeedtuner" or whatever), make sure you point it at the "CustomAssets" version of the file. Then make the changes and save them. Start a new game, and the changes should be applied. If they aren't, for any reason, exit, start the game again, but this time hold the "Shift" key while the game is starting up.

(feel free to ask more if anything confused you )

Not at all. I'm of the camp that research should take longer(and more turns added) for normal speed, but troop build cost and building build cost should only increase a little bit. Say x3 for research and x1.5 for troops or buildings. So marathon or epic with less increase in troop and build cost.

Thanks. I wasn't aware civ4 set up a seperate place for mods as such. Using their directions I should be able to do it. Ty
