I miss the true earth/mediterranean maps from Civ II since i like to play more historic setups. My first 4 games with my new Christmas present here here . . . went up a difficulty level each time starting at Chieftan; am still playing (4).
(1) Learning the system . . . standard Napoleonic conquest or domination/post-renaissance central europe (single continent map with surrounding ocean)
France v. Germany/England/Russia/Spain to take the place of Austria/possibly Italy (Rome) and Ottomans (Arabs) if desired. Added "permanent war with player" to challenge Napoleon since AIs don't coordinate alliances.
(2) One City Option . . . Jerusalem. (Space or Diplomatic victory since need 3 cities for Cultural) Religion/Wonders/Great Men to gain UN victory; space as backup if you fail at UN). Jerusalem (used Saladin renamed King David on small Inland Sea map . . . otherwise add him) v. Greece, Persia, Egypt, India (can also add Mali for comic relief) with full Ancient start.
(3) Cultural Victory . . . Colonizing Oceania. English (Beth), France (Nappy), Spain (Izzy), Japan (Tora), and Dutch (player . . . used Roosevelt) with Industrial start. Would have been easier if I could have figured out how to buy wonders using Universal Suffrage.
(4) If Space Race on (2) above, go for Diplomatic with Cold War. (Terra map, full modern start . . . special condition raging barbarians + PEACE since only insurgent rather than great power wars)
I played Third World (Ghandi) v. Roosevelt (US), Bismark (EU), Genghis (Soviets), Mao (China), and Saladin (Arabs . . . can leave them off if using small map). Figured 3rd World was about right for me playing at Prince but they do traditionally manipulate the UN, lol.
