  • Mod idea: Fighting inflation

I was looking through my finance screen the other day and noticed that I have a 53% inflation rate. Now as we know in real life that would be devastating to the economy and in-game it is also sucking $$ out of my coffers. Through experiementation I've noticed that there is no way to control inflation. Which is not particularly realistic either. So I'm suggesting a new civic or building, such as a Fed board that could only be built in the capital to reduce it or adding a civic such as Mixed Market

    What do you think?

I just want to know HOW that inflation number is calulated and what I can expect to loss from it, if it different for me then it is for the AI? Is it some kind of randomly generated number or dose the game-state actualy determine it?

I am thinking that perhaps the inflation rate that you are seeing is a culmination of inflation since you began. Thus, in 4000BC inflation starts at 0%, and as you play, it rises by some small amount that would be a common real inflation rate (5% or less) every few turns, probably with some randomization involved to show the ebb and flow of economics. As a result, by mid game you may well have an inflation "rate" of 53%, because throughout history your economy has inflated to that point. However, this would not be the per turn inflation, but the sum total of ALL inflation since game start. I believe Europa Universalis and Victoria (both by Paradox Entertainment) used a similar system.

Well, it sounds like a good idea but do you know how to actually change the value? What would your building do? It seems like no one really knows anything about this inflation value.

A quick check through some functions shows two intersting ones:
        getInflationPercent

        getAIInflationPercent

It seems that the AI doesn't suffer from inflation as much as the humans do.

Also, I couldn't find any funciton for setting inflation.
