  • Advice for a Modding Newbie

Hi guys, I am curious. I wanna create a specialist (Soldier) that slightly reduces the build time of military units AND generates points towards the creation of a Great General.
Second I want said 'Great General' to be able to join to the city such that he can grant bonus XP to all units built there AND grant bonus hammers towards unit-building ONLY.

Now, the thing is that there are civics options and some buildings which allow for these effects, but I was wondering if there is a way to cut and paste these effects from Buildings and Civics into the CitySpecialist area-and still be recognised? If not, is there a workaround that can be put in place, using python, to create the same effect?
Thanks in advance for all your help .

    Yours,

Oh and, whilst on this subject, does anyone know how to limit a building to a specific civic choice? Say I want a Slave Labour System National project, but only want it to operate whilst people either (a) are currently in slavery or (b) are NOT in Emancipation.

    Just curious.

This has been done over at CivFanatics, though its a bit different ofcorse. Here is a link

I've seen a few posts asking for a new great person in various threads, so here you go: It adds a new great person to the game, Great General. He works much like the other great people. He can join a city and become a super specialist, giving +3 gold, and +3 production. He can also build a...

Actually, Impaler, it is this Mod which initially encouraged me to seek out the possibility of making the alterations I mentioned above. His mod looks really excellent, but a general production bonus really makes the specialist no different from an Engineer, wheras I would rather have it apply to units only-and this is why I am trying to find out if it can be done.

I agree it would be a fine bonus to give. Currently all that exists to make a city more "military" are experience granting buildings. A building that incresses Production of Units only would be very cool.

Some other ideas I had conserning Great Generals...

Experience Bomb: Set him off in a group of units and he gives large experienc Lump divided up between the units (some cap is involved so they cant instantly hit insanly high values).

Rally Bomb: Set him off to instantly generate Units much like Draft ability. Can be done out side of Cities but gives double if in a City. No Unhappyness generated, no population loss. Units are of level 1 experience plus any Civ wide Bonuses you have.

Leadership Aura: His main battlefield ability Gives a "leadership" promotion to all adjacent friendly units, probaly equivilent to +10%-15% power.

Military Acadamy: In addition to Production Bonus it could give a Defence Bonus as well.

Idea for the "little generals" aka city specialists that produce the Greats (perhaps Officers would be better name). Rather then give resorces thes guys could give experience each turn to units in the City. All experience levels and buillding that provide Experience would by multpiplied by 100 so 1 old experience = 100 new experience. The Officiers add perhaps 5 experience a turn to each unit in the city, Barraks and other buildings incresse this just like other specialists get bonuses. This allows Citys to slowly gain experience and is much less exploitable then a bonus at time of construction.
