  • Mod Idea about Nukes - possible?

I've been thinking (uh-huh) about how to implement a more realistic MAD situation in Civ4.

During our real history, nukes started out as relatively weak (hiroshima bomb had 25k TNT equiv. and the nagasaki bomb was a little stronger), but got more powerful as technology and understanding of the atom increased. I believe we now have bombs that are 1000x as powerful as the hiroshima bomb, no?

A way to reflect this in Civ4 would be to make nukes more powerful with every nuke dropped. Kinda like a +1 modifier. Bomb#1 starts with a power rating of 1, and bomb #10 will be 10 times as strong. This would have to be a global counter, taking into consideration all nukes droped, not just those of one civ.

MAD is reflected in this setup as such, that the aggressor in a nuclear war will always have the weaker bombs, and will face more powerful retaliation strikes.

Since i have no clue how nukes work in Civ4, my question is, is something like this possible?

I'm afraid it needs some more thought

If you start a nuclear war and drop 20 bombs, the retaliation will be 10 times as strong? Don't think that's fair, really.

I'd like to have the choice to select the bomb's strength. Stronger bombs cost more. You can even add a maximum that increases with time passed since completion of the Manhattan Project.

Each bomb droped would at +1 to the power rating.

So if the agressor drops 10 bombs, he would start with a power rating of 1, work itself through 2, 3,4, etc.. until he gets to 10.

Then the defender gets to drop his bombs (if he has any). He will pick up were the last bomb left off and be a 11, followed by his second bomb as a 12. And so on.

Now thats what i call M.A.D.

In a case where X bombs Y with n bombs and Y retaliates with n bombs, the average power of X's bombs will approximate n/2, while Y's bombs will average n*3/2. So retaliation will in the end be three times more powerful.

That is unfair because Civ is turn-based, and it's unrealistic too.
