  • Mod Idea: Great "Farmer" Person

How about a great person who's major benefit is to increase food? We have one for money, science, culture, and production. Why not food?

    Great farmer?

"WTF" was the first thing that came to mind

I think the great merchant perfectly covers this area.

From the game design perspective, you'll have to approach the idea a bit more thoroughly. What creates this great person? What does the farmer do, exactly? Is there something else you really want to be doing, and this concept is just a means to that? Are other means possible?

In my mod, I gave merchants +1 food and great merchants +2 food. Furthermore, there's another specialist that grants +5% food, though it's technically a building but buildings can't be built more than once, so the building assigns a specialist and dissapears, making room for another.

Any specialist that produces more then 2 food will be a net contributor to the City, thus alowing you to grow your population over time.

BUT what is the point of getting more population with a specialist, if their is a usefull task for the new population you could simply have had the original "farmer" do that task (such as harvest plots or be some other kind of specialist.

I might see some usefullness in a Doctor specialist that generates Health in the late game but this would act as support for a large existing population thats alredy harvesting all avalible food and is unable to grow due to poor health.

A far more interesting GP would be a Great General, they would give a combat bonus to all adjacent units, could be cashed in to create military Academies or perhaps instantly spawn a large sum of Troops (like conscriptions but the troops are better quality and no unhappyness results). The regular "little" generals would give experience to units in ther city (like .1 experience per turn) and probably bump up a cities defence rathing 5%-10%
Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

Great farmer? Do you have any historical names for such people? I don't remember any historical figure who got famous by farming
This space is empty... or is it?

A Great Doctor is a much better suggestion.
The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

I think a "great doctor" would also be a great scientist, no?

Perhaps to make Great merchants as supercitizens more useful is to also give them a +1 health. They bring in better quality food, no ?
