  • Suggestion - Great Wall

Would it be possible to return the Great Wall to it's place in Civ honour?

We already have a new wonder giving defense to all cities (Chitzen Itza, +25%), so the old function of free city walls may be redundant.

Perhaps the wall would prevent barbarians from crossing your borders, protecting your cities from marauders, while keeping barbarian state land and the wilds dangerous?

Is this possible with the current mod tools? Would it be overpowered, underpowered? With this functionality, it would be particularly useful when settling empty continents on Terra maps.

As a real bonus, could it change your border graphics, to show an actual wall?

I prefer sdevets idea for the Great Wall, instead of the standard, but then maybe add a small extra defense bonus for all the civs cities that exists at that time of 25% (new cities wont get this bonus, nor will conquered cities) !?!

If it only helps against babarians it sounds underpowered (babarians seldom get inside my borders)

From the mentioned link, there's some I would like to have changed as well:

      Gutenberg's Print Shop
      Provides 3x new resource book

How about if these books are bibles of the builders state religion, if you trade them to another Civ this Civ will get +1 happyness in all cities, but also adds a small chance for all cities in that civ to adopt this religion

      Universal Suffrage
-25% war weariness in all cities

Nahh, we have a Civiv called this, and we have a Civic that reduces war weariness

      Theory of Evolution
      One free technology
+1 specialist in all cities on this continent

Is it just me, or does this one sound too overpowered? Maybe make it +1 science for all specialists on this continent?
This space is empty... or is it?

And to add a little more to this idea:
This extra defense bonus for the Civs (at the time of build) cities also works the "other way", meaning that if some other Civ takes over that city, this city will still have the bonus, except for the owner of the Great Wall (the owner of the Great Wall is inside the borders afterall )
This space is empty... or is it?

Wow. This looks like a great mod

I agree that some of the wonders are overpowered and some redundant, but otherwise one of the coolest mods so far. Definitely a must have one for a wonder builder freek like myself

I think I will just delete the Universal Suffrage from the mod and probably tone down the ToE a bit, but the others seem OK.

What's wrong with the Great Wall giving walls in all cities? Seems logical to me.

The Cure for Cancer should be a great wonder, really, not a national one. I don't see any nation keeping the cure for themselves. It is also a bit underpowered. It'd be better to reduce the health bonus offered by Genetics and add an extra health as a Cure for Cancer benefit.

Nothing wrong with it, it's just that we already have a wonder that gives "almost" the same effect, and I would like to see different kinds of wonders instead of just the usual (get building x in all cities, or specialists gets +x science)

I see. Well, you don't have too many options with the Great Wall: walls, defence bonus or bonus against barbarians, what else?

Hmm, actually I have an idea. The great wall would give a 25% bonus against barbarians and all new units would automatically get the "city garrison" promotion. I'm not sure though what to do with units that don't have this promotion available for them.

Or, how about this: workers would be able to build forts twice as fast and all forts would grant an additional 25% defence bonus.

Yet another idea (though probably not so easy to implement): all your units would get a 25% bonus against all enemy units (barbarians included) when fighting inside the civ's cultural borders. To be honest, the more I think about it, the more I like this latest idea. Not only is it different to the existing bonuses, but it also makes sense. Sure, even more realistic would be to grant, let's say, 50% bonus for units fighting on the border, but how many fights actually take place there?

the great wall is a classic, chichen itza is not. define the great wall, then redefine chichen itza around that.

i am somewhat intrigued by several of the ideas put forth for effects. bonus fighting in your own borders is quite nice. something that interferes with being pillaged, now... THAT is historical great wall stuff!

i also like the idea of a red cross style wonder that gives free city defender.

also, we need sun tsu's art of war.
it's just my opinion. can you dig it?

Of course it should have defense bonuses, it being a wall afterall, but as you can see there are several ways to make it a bit different

Even though the idea is good, it might be a bit too overpowered that all units (in the field or in the city) gets such a bonus
But my idea was also very different from all the other wonder bonuses as it only affects the defense for cities owned by the civ that builds it at the time it was built. New cities will not gain this bonus, which makes it an interesting choice if you should build it now and add a +50% bonus for 4 cities, or set the production on hold for 5 turns, so the two settlers I have on the way to it's destination and wait for them to settle down so they can get the bonus too, but risk that others might finish it before
