  • Lowering the sea level in XML. Why doesn't it work.

Hi guys. I don't like too much sea. Kind of a waste of space if you ask me. Anyways, i thought i might try and mess with the lame XML files that firaxis thought would be such a better idea than something like Civ3's map editor.

    So i head off too:
    D:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\GameInfo

    And find "CIV4SeaLevelInfo.xml"

    I edit the 'low_sea_level" number from -8 to -12.

I start a new map & nothing seems to have changed.

So, i make it more extreme. I make it -50.

Again, nothing seems to have changed.

So, i make each of the three values -500000.

I start a new map, and again, nothing changed.

How do i make 'more land less sea'?

Yes i have though of doing it manually with the world builder, but it's just too painfully slow...

Some map scripts have hardcoded sea level minimums and maximums. Try a different map with your XML edits, or try editing the map scripts that you want with less water.

Better yet, why not just play the land heavy maps like Lakes, Highlands, Inland Sea, or Oasis?
