  • Military Training Centers

Has anyone designed a mod that allows the construction of multiple barracks in a city? I'm thinking of something that would simulate the real world training centers that you see. If the cost to build and maintain gradually increased, it would be more budget effective to create a specialized city that built military units. This would create a further strategic element in the game, particularly if the cost to create and maintain these centers prohibited the civilization from building these in every city.

I tried making this, and ran into numerous problems (I'm about as amateur at this as you can get). Has anyone had a similiar idea? I thought it looked simple, but I couldn't get the first building to work.

My mod creates a new building: Military Academy. Requires 3 barracks per, and requires an additional +2 experience.

For your idea, you could add several copies of the barracks building to the building list, each of them providing additional experience, and costing more and more per next building until a player will eventually decide that having units with the experience they have is better than spending 2,000 hammers just to get a further +2 exp, or something similar.

That was my initial attempt. I simply copied the building, and changed the name (Barracks, Barracks2, Barracks3, etc), and the experience awarded. I never saw the building in the game when I loaded it up.

Ran into some system instabilities, and decided "What the heck", and began a drive wipe and OS re-install.

        Check out: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=143934

To make it another barracks, remove the (PrereqBuildingClasses) portion and replace it with a (PrereqBuildingClasses/). then adjust exp as appropriate.

Also, you'll need to clear the cache of the game in order for these changes to appear.

Shoot, I wonder if that's the problem. I didn't clear the cache when I was working, and didn't see any change at all.

I'm probably going to wait on further experimentation. I have a completely clean system now, and I think I'll wait to re-install until the patch comes out.

Thanks for the file (On the thread you listed), I'm going to start reading that tonight.
