  • 10 Archers and 5 Catapults.. in 1 unit: Here's how..

I've been going through the xml files quite a lot lately, and discovering many wonderful things (Thanks Firaxis, u were thinking ahead. ).

It's all in the UnitInfos XML, go to the Settlers row, find UnitMeshGroup, in there you will see how the Settler unit is created. (remember, there are 3 models to make up the Settler unit, Man, Woman, Child).

Just apply this same coding to another unit, but change the define tags accordingly.

If you want to add more 'men' to the unit, you just simply change the number in iGroupSize.

To create the unit above, this is what it looks like for the Archer row:

Just recently I have made a few leaps and bounds with the Formations XML file, so I will be working on making them look more lined up.

      What XML editor is that?

And information on formations could be very useful indeed.

          Interesting

Are those archers carrying matches behind their backs?

            Very interesting stuff Snoopy.

Keep us updated on how you get on.

            I'd be particularly interested in realising close-order formation movements/attacks (e.g. phlanx/mounted).

Oh, and those quivers definitely do look like matchsticks, lol.

It appears to me to be 'just' an artwork mod. But a darn cool one at that.

As for increased power, that could simply be defined for the new unit as a whole.

Imagine a mod (I do more imaging than modding) where with a special building 'Boot Camp' and a special unit 'Drill Instructor' or just give the ability of 'Train Platoon' to any level 5 experience unit.

Then have a scripted unit action "Train Platoon", that converts 8 units into a larger unit with 8 artwork subcomponents. Give it (since strength=defense=hitpoints) 2 times the single unit stats, and there you have a rough equivalent of a name taking kick ass military unit for whatever age you are in. Mind you, it's expensive (8 units = 2x strength) but it will be extremly powerful against units of a similar era.

                Just a thought.
