Hopefully I will be able to put my desire to learn Python to the test in CIV4 modding (and I hope my ideas do not require the SDK!!)
I'm not calling ownership of these ideas - so if someone can mod them in first please feel free!!
1. Introduce the concept of civil war to the game. I really don't want to over engineer this idea but I think that chronic long term unhappiness in cIV 4 isn't really punished effectively.
My idea is that cities with chronic unhappiness will eventually revolt - with a chance the city will either become barbarian or if close to other unhappy cities will become a new civilization.
This probability will be based around difficulty level and how far away the cities are from the capital.
2. Introduce the concept of era to units. The era the unit belongs to will positively impact its combat rating when it fights units of an earlier era. Each era difference would add 20% to the combat abilities of the technologically more advanced unit. Helicopters would get a 50% bonus per era level.
Ancient = 1, Classical = 2, Medieval = 3, Industrial = 4, Modern = 5.
3. Make forts more valuable.
a) Provide culture. (i.e like Hadrians Wall)
b) Give 50% defensive bonus rather than 25%.
c) Provide happiness until modern era.
4. Change the UN so that nations which do not conform suffer diplomatic penalties with other states but do not have to comply. The only exception being nuclear proliferation (because you can gift nukes to states that don't have them).
