  • For those with the game a question on graphic files

Hate to bug you from your first game but if you could quickly see:

what files are the leaderheads can you add the civIII easily?

Do units use skins? what files are they?

How are terrain graphics handled, format etc.

    thank you.

Some information desired from those who have the game...

Can someone go to the game directory (in command prompt) and type
    dir -S > blah.txt

and paste the content of blah.txt here? Be helpful for us poor saps without the game to see what files there are.

Re: For those with the game a question on graphic files

Please mind the disclaimer I posted in the other thread: I totally suck at graphics and really am not the guy to ask these types of questions.

For the animated leaderheads, there are a variety of different file formats (DDS, KF, KFM and NIF). If you have the right 3D program (I think 3D Max but don't shoot me if I'm wrong) you can edit them and add new ones as you see fit.

If that's not an option, you can quite easily add non-animated leaderheads in DDS format though (there are DDS plugins for every major graphics program, such as PSP, PS and Gimp), as was done for some of the scenarios. This is just as easy as it is in Civ3 or CtP1/2.

In non-animated form, yes (see the Greek World scenario). In animated form, I don't think that's possible but again, I'm not the guy to ask.

Yes, there are skins. I've seen many different file formats, I don't know what all of them do. I'm pretty sure the skins are in DDS though. Other formats I've seen: KFM, NIF, TGA, KF.

How are terrain graphics handled, format etc.
Different things (base terrain, features (such as forest, jungle, oasis, ice), resources, etc) are handled differently, but all in the file formats I listed for units and leaderheads. Mostly DDS, NIF and TGA though, from the look of it.

        city graphics easy to edit?
Same as the others: NIF and DDS.

        Blake,
I don't have the release version of the game yet so it might violate my NDA if I did that and it wouldn't be representative of the release version anyway (lots of debug stuff and lots of movies, music and other fluff missing). So someone else will have to help you there.
