In original 1994 col., missionaries would improve the relations with Indians.

Is there anything similar in C4C, AoD II?

I have seen the "your missionaries have insulted our spirits" displayed in the diplomacy screen often, but nothing else.

Despite this, I have some signs of friendlier indian behavior when I use missionaries...

What is the truth?

I believe failed missions damage your relations with natives in AoDII. Other than that I"m not sure.

I believe -1 for every failed attempt? Anything positive in relations from succeeding an attempt?

If you establish missions, you do get improved relations, and it is via reducing the "Your way of life is threatening to ours" modifier.
