DirectX is the first thing I'd upgrade.
Then upgrade your drivers.

That's what the game looks like on my laptop. I get the message that "the game will not run on this hardware setup." Well, it will, but it's a frustrating exercise. For most units all I can see is the little pole symbol, and during combat all I'll see is the bow...which flies backwards if the brave dies, etc. etc. This is with the latest DirectX, the latest drivers that Dell can figure out, and no option to upgrade the graphics. Naturally, I don't do serious play on my laptop!!!"...your Caravel has killed a Spanish Man-o-War."Comment
