I find that in multiplayer you want to build your town on top of a 4-6 food tile. This allows you to place your first 2 or 3 colonists inside the town hall to push for the early founding fathers, especially peter minuiet for 25% cheaper units. Or if there is no uber food tile around, a hill works if there is seafood nearby.
