Help in Worldbuilder

I can't figure out how to make a Soldier out of a free colonist or a pioneer. What am I missing?

Delete the colonist and add a soldier.

I can add a veteran soldier or hardy pioneer no problem. I am trying to add [Free Colonists] who are in the role of Soldier and Pioneer, like in the beginning of the game.

After placing the unit, go to the unit editor (bottom-left button like a green circle). Click the unit to edit and you should be able to change their profession there.

Okay, I was in the right place. I cannot get any of the other professions to show up on the dropdown. If I select a free colonist that I place the dropdown has only [Colonist] if I select the Soldier that that side defaults with the selection says [Soldier], but I cannot change it either. This behavior is the same if I am using patchmod or plain as installed.
