What does it mean when a particular good in the goods display at the bottom of the settlement screen, has a golden highlight? (where the quantities are displayed)

Red means you're over the warehouse limit. Yellow means at your current production rate, you'll reach the limit soon. I.e. +32 Fur at turn, with a 100 Warehouse limit, will get you Yellow right away.

Thanks, but I'm refering to the gold/yellow shaded background that fills the box containing those goods/amounts. I can go whole games without seeing it. Other games it will appear a few times. This last time it appeared for coats in just one of my three cities and lasted 40 turns or so. The town I had at the time couldn't produce furs or coats so I wasn't sure exactly what to do. I would get a screenshot for ya, but when I try to do a printscreen, I get a mostly black image in my clipboard. Tried the screenshot in windowed mode too. No luck.

So has noone seen this? Maybe this was asked and answered already? Or is it in the manual and I'm just being a total noob here?

BTW, if someone knows the trick to getting a screenshot, I'll take one and post the next time it happens.

      Thanks.

Printscreen copies it to the clipboard, I believe. If that doesn't work for you, it should also be putting a .bmp file somewhere in your my documents folder(/my games/col/screenshots, or something). Also try alt+prtscr, maybe.

Hey cool! I had installed Blue Marble and was worried I wouldn't be able to reproduce it. As a matter of fact, I went back to the saved games I had and didn't see it, so maybe it won't appear for me anymore.

Anyway, your suggestion worked. I went to the screenshots directory, and there were the two attempts I made from before Blue Marble. I was trying the old method of doing a printscreen and pasting the clipboard into paint or something.

So here's the screenshot. I also saw it for rum two times before this one for coats. (in different games) I thought maybe it's some sort of bonus, but I suppose it could just be a graphics glitch.

So I learned that if I back out Blue Marble, the highlighting comes back in one of my saved games. I experimented some by buying some furs in Europe and processing them in that city. Nothing unusual happens. I wonder if this is just some sort of remnant of something the developers were playing around with, but never fully implemented. That it happens for different goods at different times, suggests it is something programmatic going on.

I saw this in one of my games too. No idea what it means.

Go to the Domestic Adviser screen and click on a city, then below the list of cities there will a row of items for the items that can be stored in a city. If you click on any of these they become highlighted (with a black box). Then in that city it will have the golden highlight that you show in your picture. I just found this by accident, and remembered this thread.

I think the yellow highlight means that good is emphasised and black means de-emphasised. You can change the emphases(sp?) by clicking on the city name in the main screen, or from the city screen itself (and perhaps the domestic advisor too as LordBiff points out).

It's quite useful if you don't want to micromanage your colonists and just want the AI to do the hard work automating them all. All you have to do is tell the governor which goods to emphasise or not, and away you go. For example, de-emphasising bells helps to stop the governors from assigning people to the town hall before you're ready.

That would be a cool banner to replace my supporter one.
