    So, from what i read and by now also experienced myself, two of the major issues with the game are these:

    a) People outside your colonies always count as being loyal.

    b) Scouting makes you rich early.

    Maybe a) was done, because people outside of your colonies dont need food.

    Now, what if every unit outside a colony has a cargo space. In which you need to place food, from which it consumes one (or two ?) each turn. There would be no reason for the units outside your cities to always count as loyalists anymore, and your scouts would have a certain range after which they´d dissolve (starve) or auto-settle (to grow food). If it´s important that the player need not be able to dissolve colonies for some reason, then the choice should be his/hers, wether the unit without food auto-settles or disbands.

    This might open a new layer of military strategies as well...

    Opinions please ?

    EDIT: Food yields would have to be re-balanced of course (maybe just +1 for each tile, except mountains)...

    Sounds good, but I struggle with tweaky improvements when the thing is just broken.

    Which colour the watch strap should be is secondary to fixing the winding mechanism if you will...
