Scout to Dragoon?

How do I convert a decorated Scout into a Dragoon?

Give him guns.

It requires more guns than a regular soldier though. This confused me a few times myself.

That is the problem. He is in a city with guns. The option I have is to turn him into a soldier. If I turn him into a soldier, then the horses move into the city's inventory. But there is no option to turn him into a dragoon.

Well, then it appears, that the dragoons requires more horses than the scout...

If you are playing as the English with George Washington, it only takes 25 guns to make a soldier, but to make a dragoon it still takes 50 guns and 50 horses (normal play). This may be your problem, because I've made plenty of dragoons with old scouts.

I could be wrong on this one, but...

I had a similar problem with trying to change a converted native into a dragoon. Is it possible only colonists can become dragoons?

Converted natives cannot take up arms (unless they're first trained into a normal colonist).

As Snoopy said, natives can't take up arms, but it might be good to note that certain FFs give natives combat bonuses (and you CAN give them horses).
