In civ4 you can simply turn off events for either SP or MP games... but ohh wait Col doesn't have events.

Yes it does, the whole Tutorial is done via events.

Didn't you say that events are too much work for the developers? Didn't the Firaxian apologist Dale agree?
What the hell do you mean by that? I am not an apologist for them (if anything I've been as critical, if not more than anyone) and I did not agree anything about events being hard work for the the developers. I said they were intrusive, essentially negative RNG's and that most civ4 events wouldn't fit anyways.

Don't put words in my mouth I never said thankyou.

Mmm, I can imagine a situation when a free colonist enters school, and an ironworks is finished while he's studying.

If you proposal was included, the player wouldn't be able to choose a blacksmith as profession when the student finishes his education.

You were far more than just critical of Civ 4, you went out and made it better in the most fundamental ways.

            Not remotely an apologist.

No he meant choose the profession at the start of training. Buildings no effect on education, as you would still have to have that profession in the colony at START of training. So your blacky could be a farmer, and you can teach blacky at school.

Agreed. Good idea. Lets you plan things out better.

                    2. Extremely unbalancing in MP.
                    3. If you get lucky early, you win the game.
                    4. If your opponents get these, but you are unlucky you will never catch up to them.

Yes they did provide atmosphere, and they were enjoyable to get, but geeze are these unbalancing for the entire game!
You might be right about the MP impact though I'm not entirely convinced. But I'd be willing to wager that 90% or more of us never play on MP and frankly don't care to. We'd rather have the special events.

Darth, if the Fountain of Youth is going to ruin the MP game anyway, then why not just go back to the original and make it 6 colonists?

I think Liberty Bell production should be a factor - but not the only factor. Producing Liberty Bells should be a trade-off. Upside being bonuses. Downside being that the REF size increases a little faster.

-All professions cost money to train and require a master present in the colony

I actually like the current education system except for the ramping costs.

I like this idea a lot. A selectable reward occurs to me. Select between military units, removing an item from boycott or a 10% reduction in tax rate.

Not only should fortress's be more visually distinctive, but they should actually be strong enough to justify building them.

FYI: You can't really create a scenario in the World Builder. You cannot place a colony or village and there is no editor feature to allow you to randomly fill the map with resources, native villages or ruins. You also cannot set the starting locations.

What I liked here a lot is missions from the King.

Not so keen on exploration suggestions. As already mentioned they are quite imbalanced.

Adding some random events could spice things up. Let's say you could win/lose favour with your King.

I am also positive on having a eurepean power help you if you generate X amount of LBs.

Random pirate ships could be added and act as barbarians.

I would also like to see a fort opening fire to nearby ships.

Above all I would like to see this video memory flood eliminated -reported it to Firaxis today.
                          Coling since 1994... :)
