  • How to tell which ship is which?

In the Euorpean docks, how can you tell which ship is which?

I had two empty caravels. The problem is, one I sent from the west side of the map, and the other I sent from the east. At the Euorpean docks I couldn't tell which was which. I accidentally loaded the wrong ship with the particular immigrants I needed so they ended up on the wrong side of the world!

Also, is there a way, if you buy a ship in Europe, to specify whether you want it to travel east or west?

I think you could name them, if you wanted to.

I think ships automatically head to your original starting location, but I could be wrong, I haven't played much on maps with west and east sides.

I kind of wish I could rename ships while in European dock. Ships will always emerge from where they left for Europe.

I'm going to put two buttons on that screen.

The default one which returns to the east (or sends to the eastern starting location). The other which returns to the west (or sends to a western location if it didn't come from there).

The number of times I've purchased a new ship and wanted to send it to the west!

Of course, that might possible end up being an exploit - turning up at the west without having explored across from the east first. I would disable the button to send a ship to the west until a ship has come to Europe from the west at least once.

Oh definitely! A simple bool to trigger on discovery of the first western sea zone plot.

You know, I think this is another area where Col2 is a disappointment. All those "reward" screens from the original, Meeting The Natives, Discovery Of The Pacific, etc. added a bit of flavor. The +1 movement to ships for discovering the Pacific was also fun.

The music of the original was a bit more varied and festive as well.

I don't mean to sound like such a grump; overall, I think this is a great game. I just wish I didn't have to stockpile guns and horses in wagons until the very last moment to win. It's a pain.

And being forced to declare after a certain number of turns is my other pet peeve with this game.
