"Fully automate transport"?

Hi I couldn't find this in the manual or in the colpedia. What does "fully automate transport" do? I understand the button that allows you to set trade routes, but I don't understand what "fully automate transport" does..

Fully automating transport will put the wagon train on autopilot. It will automatically go to any colony that has a commodity listed in the export list, and take it to a colony that has it listed in the import list.
