What Difficulty Level is 'Balanced'?

Hi,

I play Civ IV on Noble, the game says that this is the balanced level.

Neither this game or it's manual give any explanation as to what each difficulty is like. Has anyone found out from another source which difficulty on Colonization is equivalent to Noble on Civ IV?

The game seems to have serious balance issues at all the medium difficulty settings, it needs a patch. See my other thread for more.

For real? I was going to try my first full game on Conquistador, does that seem about right?

I played for a little last night on Explorer but I seemed to be getting an awful lot of specialists from Europe very early on.

Also how do I trade with the indians? Do I send a wagon or some other unit. I remember in the old one when I moved a unit into their village (i forget what type) i got a popup message saying that they would be interested in buying certain stuff, or even train my guys, I haven't figured out how to do that on this one.

Conquistador or the level below it is probably the Noble equivalent, I suspect.

Yes, you send a wagon (or a ship) loaded with stuff to the indian settlement, and then there's a button you click that initiates trade.

I'll give it a try rather soon. Then I will probably have a score of complaints after I lose badly.

The absurd increasing tax rate and King's expeditionary force build up are my two biggest "difficulty" complaints, even on the easiest levels.

What level have you played on that feels balanced difficulty wise as far as building up your colonies and dealing with the other factions, I mean aside from the king's force.

I aksed this in another thread but I guess I'll ask it here too, can you try sinking some of the king's army at sea?
