Since there are land connections to the homeland too (I know the sea was quicker/easier), you should include a mechanism that keeps colonists from trading with the homeland by use of landroute.

High mountains, high-strength "tribes",... you're from the area, so you probably know best.

I don't know if it is possible to reach the homeland by land. I was planing on making the edge of the map land with it peaks and sail east on sea.

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

By then Phoenicia has been conquered so many times that basically the game would take over as YOU being the motherland. Which from reading the forum is what you want.
I know but who else can play the role of King?

A fictional successful Alexander heading west? A Hellenic king wanting to become a the Alexander of the west? Barbarian marauders?

Or maybe I either Athens or Sparta depending on which side you chose in the Peloponesian Wars.

Now to civs, my idea is to have 4 Greek and 2 Phoenician Home cities:

        Greek Civs (home cities)
        Athens
        Miletus

        Phoenicia (home cities):
        Tyre
        Sidon

Default Names for the "New World":
        Greece - Magna Graecia
Phoenicia - ? a bit of help from the man who took Thinksalot

Leaders (there will be several, I'm just throwing ideas heare)
        Carthage -

        Hannibal (can't skip him)
        Hanno the Navigator?
        Hanno the Great?
        Dido?

        Greek Colonies -

        Agathocles
        Pyrrhus of Epirus?
        Gelo?
