  • anyone else having trouble with the free software?

I was very excited to get the free software for the old colonization game but I find that my computer can't read it. Anyone else have this problem? How do I access the game?

Yes---I got the free CD with the mag but it won't run at all. Any ideas about how I can access it?

        It runs fine for me...

Can you not get the DVD to work at all? (It is a DVD, at least for me, by the way... are you using a CD drive for it?)

If you can read it, but can't run the menu or whatever, navigate to \assets\data\ and run Setup Sid Meier's Colonization.exe ...

Ah, PCG uses DVD for their media inserts now... shows how long it's been since I even looked at one. ( for how it shows my age... )

I just bought a Linux magazine called Ubuntu special that comes with a DVD of the platform...

Do you think Firaxis games run under Ubuntu?

With Wine I'd guess they do.

Actually, if you're talking about the DOS version, you don't need Wine, I don't believe (WINDOWS emulator). DOSbox should work under Linux directly, as far as I know.

The current stuff may or may not work cleanly - Civ4 under Wine does, I believe, Solver could clarify that.

                      Erm....Dan??

Were you so embarrassed that you couldn't get Colonization to work, that you had to create a settler to ask the question?

I'm hopeful someone(s) will be able to assist LK (bmrgb) resolve the issue ultimately.

I am using (or trying to) a CD drive. It seems like it starts reading and then stops. It then seems like I do not have a disc there.

                            You can't read a DVD in a CD-reader.

The DOS version works just fine in Linux via DOSBox. It's how I play.

Now if only SMAC would run under ANY Windows compatibility layer software. I pirated XP (and deny it access to the Internet) for one reason alone: to play SMAC.

(BTW: Wine Is Not an Emulator)
