  • Colonization headed to Mac

    ESRB leaked it.

Can confirm that an ESRB search http://www.esrb.org shows C4C for PC & Mac. But is also shows the original for Mac only, so I wouldn't 100% believe this till confirmed by a second reliable source.

I've seen too many "sure things" turn out to be rumours.

Actually, the ESRB listing is always correct.

Incidentally, the ESRB didn't exist when the PC version of Colonization was released, but did when the Mac version did. So one was unrated, and the other is.

Hey, Jonah, long time no see, good to see you're still around Thanks for the good reporting and heads-up, as usual

This is certainly interesting, it goes against previous statements from Firaxis and 2K that this would be an 'exclusive' PC release (though that term is used rather loosely these days anyway), but that's indeed a pretty credible source. I've asked Firaxis for a clarification, it will be good to have the official word from them.

Does the ESRB rating mean they have a (nearly) finished game to show the ESRB, similar to films and MPAA rating, or is it simply the publisher's opinion?

It differs. Initially the ESRB only gets video footage and a bunch of paperwork on games that are to be rated, which can be sent in long before the game is done. But close to release publishers send in physical copies of the game for final review and approval as well.

Games regularly appear on the ESRB website long before they are released, or sometimes even publicly announced (as happened with the PC port of GTA4 just last month), so it's hard to say whether this info reflects actual physical copies of C4C in the ESRB's possession or merely Firaxis/2K paperwork -- especially as it's entirely conceivable, even likely, that the Mac and PC versions are in different stages of development.
