I don't think that stat demonstrates anything.

If 80% of investigations lead to a prosecution and 58% are convicted, that would be very different to 20% of investigations lead to a prosecution and 57% are convicted. You'd have four times the accusation to conviction rate. That is, prosecutions can be gamed. Prosecution bodies do it all the time to boost conviction rates.

I add to that that if someone falsely accuses you of something you are now labeled that by whoever will believe the lie. So not only would you be imprisoned, but everyone you know may believe the lie and think you are a rapist.

I wonder if there is a harsh punishment for falsely accusing someone of rape.
With other words, if a person opens a rape case where s/he accuses someone of raping her/him and it can proven beyond doubt, that this person intentionally lied about it,
will this person then also have to face a criminal court, in which s/he, if found guilty, will be sentenced to several years of prison (similar to the fate that would have awaited the other person if s/he had been found guilty of the rape)

It's called "perjury", and in Britain it can get you 7 years in prison.

It's called libel or slander. No?

Perhaps perverting the course of justice.

Just found an article online ...

In it a woman was sentenced to 2 years of prison for falsely making this acusations against someone she met at a dating website.
I have to say that the full 7 years that Bugs ****ing Bunny mentions would have fit better ... but 2 years is better than no sentence at all (which seems to be what the spokesperson for "Womens against rape" priobably would like to see, who is mentioned at the end of the article and who finds the sentence against the false accuser outrageous)

Anyone know why only two of the four charges resulted in a guilty verdict? Were the women only reliable 50% of the time? Did the jury figure the other 50% they would go with the guy instead? Or, maybe it is indicative of the jury being biased towards him. He was only convicted 50% of the time, whereas according to MikeH's stats the prevailing rate for all crimes is 57% and for rape it's 58%.

Who knows the answer? Doesn't matter I guess, we can just make up the reasons for his conviction in our heads.

It's weird, it's like with that recent case over here where a woman was taken back to the hotel room of two footballers and was sexually assaulted; one of them was convicted but the other was acquitted. Given it's the same jury deciding both cases, how could they come to the conclusion that in a simultaneous assault one was guilty and the other wasn't?

It's amazing how a woman can go with guys to a hotel room and cry rape afterwards. Why did she go to the hotel room if she didn't expect to do something?

I realise this stuff is entirely alien to you, but I have on many occasions invited both men and women back to my hotel room without the slightest intention to have sex with them.

You merely wanted them to have sex with you?

Aside from bugs point, are you saying she doesn't have the right to change her mind? If she says no or pushes him away and yet he keeps on doing his thing, it's still rape even if she intended to **** him 40 ways from sundown a mere 2 minutes prior. Do you contest this simple definition?
                          Unbelievable!
