Random Civ is fine for me
I am looking to start a new PBEM.
Settings:
- Large, wet, warm, pangea, 60% water, 5 bill. year world.
- No ruins.
- No AI civs.
- Accelerated production.
I need approx. 4 other players and one administrator/moderator.

Oh yes, I want to play Mao of the Chinese.
And to motivate candidate moderators: I will moderate a game of yours if you moderate mine.

Flandrien,
I would be interested in moderating your game for the simple reason that I would like to find out how this is/can be done.
Do you have any suggestions and/or requirements for your moderator?
Thanks,
Delmar

What is this moderating thingie? Is this the guy who just sets up the game? If so, why do you need candidates?
"Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master" - Commissioner Pravin Lal.
Tasks of the moderator:
1. Set up the game.
2. Receive a copy of each turn of the game.
When a player does not play his turn in, let's say 2 days, you open the turn, play it yourself (minimal actions), and send it to the next player.
If you want to know more about PBEM and moderating, read the very interesting document about it from Keygen in this thread .

I can do this if you want me to.Originally posted by Flandrien

The document you refer to below talks about a whole lot more things though. I have some concerns about the "Permanent Replacements", "Cheating check" and "Fight resolving" parts in particular. I am not sure how I could find a permanent replacement for someone or prevent someone from cheating/flaming others.
Very interesting indeed. I think everyone who joins this game should read this document. And on a general note, maybe we should create a recruitment center for PtW.If you want to know more about PBEM and moderating, read the very interesting document about it from Keygen in this thread .
Including me, that's five players.
And yes, I intend for a long game.
Delmar, you don't need to read everything from the document.
Some things (like the cheating part) are CTP specific.
Well, where are those candidates ?![]()
If there is still room and you need another player, I'll volunteer.
Illegitimi Non Carborundum

OK then, as I said I can set up the game for you and "next" people who don't play for 48 hours. I'll PM you with my email address.Originally posted by Flandrien

Which civ, jshelr ?
Egypt if available.
Americans second choice, believe it or not.
Iriquois, if needed.
Thanks
If someone has to be away for while, I'm happy to play a few tuns in that persons placeWhen a player does not play his turn in, let's say 2 days, you open the turn, play it yourself (minimal actions), and send it to the next player.![]()

Just a few turns ?
Why not join the game ?![]()
1. you allready have enough players, have you not??
2. Really don't like accel.production
3. IMHO it's better to have someone not on the team, filling in for an (temp) absent player, keeps thing more "honest", maybe fair is a better word
In other games I'm involved with, we have done similar things.

I have 3 players for now:
- hot_enamel
- jshelr
- myself
I really want 2 extra players, 3 if possible.
Hmmm, maybe Delmar can join the game.
In that case, Alva can become moderator.
Just an idea.
Make sure, everyone sends me their password for this game![]()

When you have the admin password, you don't need theirs.

I would like to join. My email is:
lmtoops@yahoo.com
My preference would be Carthage, but I'll take a random civ. after that.
I'm in it for the long hall...I won't quite even if I'm stuck in last. Which of course will not happen.

I don't want to play, thanks. If you want me to be the moderator, then send me an email or pm with the info needed to set up the game (there are a lot more options than mentioned in the first post) and the password for the first player (I will need this, I guess, as I can't save between specifying the admin password and the password of the first player).
Fair enough, Delmar stays moderator.
Alva, maybe some other game.
Welcome, Imtoops.
no probs
Have Fun![]()

Great!!
I'll be waiting for more information.
Will this thread be used as our "game tracking thread"?
I hope that wasn't a dumb question.

Waiting..Waiting..
I have changed my mind on my Civ Choice.
1. Arabia
2. Mongols
3. Iroquoi
None of which I have ever played

I think it is time to get this game started.
Since we have only four players, I recommend a smaller map : standard in stead of large.
I have sent a PM to our moderator.

I have almost all the information necessary to start the game.
Here is what I think is missing:
Preferred turn order: Flandrien said he would be playing 19-21 GMT. I need this information from the other players as well to determine a sensible turn order. Please use GMT or Apolyton time when specifying time range. Default: based on time zone.
Password for the first player: See explanation in my previous post. Anyone can be the first, regardless of turn order, so if any one person sends me this info that's good enough. If you want me to, I can come up with a password for you, just let me know (and don't blame me afterwards). Default: random, defined by me.
Difficulty level: Something tells me you want Regent, so... Default: Regent.
You have 12 hours to clarify the above settings in an email, PM or post here, or let me know that I should wait more than 12 hours. Otherwise I will go with the defaults mentioned above.
And here is what I think I know:
Players:
Hot_Enamel - Arabia
jshelr - Egypt
lmtoops - Carthage
Flandrien - China
All males, all names spelled as shown above (first character in lmtoops' name/email is L not I, right?)
Name of the game: Double or Nothing
Game type: Play by Email
Game mode: Standard
Turn timer: None
World size: Standard
Barbarian activity: No Barbarians
Land Mass: Pangaea
Water Coverage: 60%
Climate: Wet
Temperature: Warm
Age: 5 billion
Game limits: None
Victory conditions: Domination, Space Race, Diplomatic, Conquest, Cultural (in other words, all).
Allow civ specific abilities: Yes
Culturally linked start loc.: Yes
Respawn AI: No
Preserve random seed: Yes
Accelerated production: Yes
Elimination: No
Regicide: No
Mass regicide: No
Victory point locations: No
Capture the princess: No
Allow cultural conversions: Yes
Similarly, you have 12 hours to protest.

I will generally play from 01 - 04 GMT. I hope I did my math right (I'm a statistician, so I better have it right). I'm -6 GMT, so 01 GMT converts to 7 pm my time (CST).
Most weekends, I cannot play due to family issues. But that is my concern and I will need to plan in advance to make sure it does not hold up the game. Basicly, I am away from the game most Fridays, Saturday, and the first half of Sunday. This is just a FYI to all players; again I will have to deal with this.
I have no objections to any of the defaults. If there are no barbarians, are there Goodie Huts? I would prefer to have Goodie Huts.
If the game is sent to two addresses
jshelr@aol.com and russell.sheldon@bmonb.com I can respond quickly at any time of day other than 2am to 11am GMT.
BTW, very nicely set up Delmar. If others would be as clear it would be very helpful.
