The 'splosion-nerdstuff continuum

For me a letdown in Interstellar (aside from b) was,
that, despite lots of hard SciFi elements, some things didn´t make sense ...
for example the time dilation around the water planet:
Even if you simplify it, the ship in orbit around the planet would be half the time be nearer to the black hole (than the planet) and half the time be farther away ... meaning that the difference in times (between ship and landing crew) would more or less cancel themselves out (meaning that the time difference between up there and down there shouldn´t be all too big)

I think that had something to do with the love.

Where do you stand? No poll since there are basically an infinite number of midpoints on the continuum and it'd take forever to enumerate a representative sample.

I don't have a sophisticated system to determine this. For me, a movie has to "work on some level". What that exactly means remains a mystery even to myself

There has to be something that appeals to me, but it could be a rather simple plot with splosioneria and other nerdstuff sometimes, and slow, highbrow stuff at another day.


I find myself sometimes bored by certain action CGI FX sequences despite there went obviously a lot of skill and money into it. Some others I find outright breathtaking. Ideally a movie has great plot, characters and visuals. However, sometimes I just want to shut my brain off for some2 hrs, so only visuals do it then.
