  • at the thought that an undergrad degree in poli sci from Yale gets you an automatic job on the Street.

We look at a hundred such resumes from similar schools for every one we hire ("we" meaning the firm, as my group would never hire somebody so useless). And most of them are gone after two years of relatively low earnings.

          • Actually, I'm beginning to think Yale is an unlikely bet. His first and last name are available, and I don't recognize them, even though I've known many people on the right at Yale. And he also doesn't show up on my facebook.

                • This is perhaps why Albie is right... because your lives are so meaningless that you sit around and speculate about and/or research into the lives of random retarded forum posters. Not only does this prove your lives and time are meaningless and worthless, it also proves that "value" exists without monetary exchange, as you godless dollarites are doing something without being paid for it*. (Yes, it does both at the same time even though they're self refuting statements, *****es!)

*presumably.. though if you've got some sort of scam going plz let me in, I can have 500 filipinos looking up this guy's personal details in 3 flicks of the cat's tail or however the saying goes.

                      • Actually, I majored in Poli Sci and English. But I did take some Econ courses as well as a few Poli Ec courses that I put a lot of effort into. Carnegie Mellon is a good school for the math and sciences, but objectively speaking, it's just not as competitive as Swarthmore. I only brought up the 'my school is better than yours' in response to KH's constant bragging about everything, and to demonstrate that I could have gone to Wall Street had that been my choice. I got into Bowdoin (safety school), Williams, Amherst, and Harvard as well, waitlisted at Yale, Princeton, and Dartmouth, and rejected from Brown. They had a separate application though and if my memory serves me well than I didn't spend enough time on it.

Between the four I got into and seriously considered, I decided on Swarthmore. Williams was too jockish, Amherst wasn't serious enough (they want to be in a place surrounded by thousands of other college kids), and Harvard was a joke. I have to admit the prestige factor of Harvard was very difficult to turn down, but I would have gotten a terrible education there. Getting taught by TA's, being surrounded by slackers, and having no academic culture at my school (other than make connections and succeed in business or politics) did not appeal to me. The liberal arts college is definitely the best place for an education, and out of the three I was looking at, Swarthmore seemed the best. It was the most isolated and the students were definitely the most academically motivated. You don't go to a place like that unless you really want to hit the books.

And yeah, I could have gone to Wall Street had that been my goal from day 1. Many of my peers did, and within a few years, they'll be be making more than either of you. As far as being smart enough, that's just not true. I know a lot of people who really aren't that intelligent that are going in to the financial sector. They work hard, they follow directions, and they get their s**t done. That's about it. In fact, it's bad to be too smart on Wall Street, they don't want you to engage in creative thinking, and if you're truly a smart person, you'll probably be disgusted by it.

Of course intelligence is pretty much impossible to measure and comes in many forms, even within the confines of what we might call 'intellectual intelligence.'

Thanks for the interest though. And BTW, Curtis is actually my middle name, it's just what I commonly go by. I won't give you my real first name because now I'm actually concerned about you looking me up. But don't even bother with Facebook or Linkedin, I'd never lower myself to that level. If you know anything about my beliefs you'd know I despise social networking on the internet. The only reason I'm here is for a chance at good discussion. At least the people here are more intelligent than the morons at conservativecave.com or conservativesforum.com.

And KH and Kuci are still going to mock your schooling. It's a shame, really. They're the only people I've ever seen who will mock a Yale or Swarthmore or whatever else education.

                            • Oh and BTW, WTF is with everyone calling me a Nazi? Nazism is based on the idea of a racial hierarchy rooted in biology with a whole set of utopian political motivations built on top of that aiming at genoicide. If you think that's what I believe, than clearly you aren't listening to what I have to say.

Okay so you spent over $40K a year to get your liberal arts degree... now what? I hope you got scholarships and aid because otherwise, that was so not worth it. What's your plan?
