  • The draft analyzer for the Dallas News absolutely toasted Jerry Jones about it. Although I read other sources that call it a toss up. I can see the lightning and thunder analogy, that I think you spoke of.
The Cowboys certainly weren't, I wouldn't think, going to bench Barber. He's earned the starter role. SOB is tough.

Terry Glenn is nearing the end. Crayton may do ok. Hurd is pretty untested.

    • Same crew that powered through the schedule last year, but with Glenn available for more than a couple games (it is hoped).

It seemed to me that, with Mendenhall falling and 2 first rounders to play with, Jerry could have dropped a bit, still gotten Felix Jones, and maybe picked up another pick in the process.

              • Cutler has Type 1 diabetes, will need daily insulin injections

                Associated Press

DENVER -- Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, his business manager Marty Garafalo confirmed Thursday night.

                Comp: 297
                Yards: 3,497
                TD/INT: 20/14

The 25-year-old Cutler found out about two weeks ago that he was diabetic and needed daily insulin injections, Garafalo told The Associated Press.

He said Cutler was managing his disease and "in no way is his football career jeopardized."

Some 21 million Americans have diabetes, meaning their bodies cannot properly turn blood sugar into energy. Either they don't produce enough insulin or don't use it correctly. With the Type 1 form, the body's immune system attacks insulin-producing pancreatic cells, so that patients require insulin injections to survive.

"It's something that he's dealing with and something a lot of other people have," Garafalo said. "Even though it's a serious condition, it's a condition that can be managed. That's the way he's treating it right now.

"Everything's fine," Garafalo continued. "His condition is fine."

Cutler, entering his third NFL season, threw for 3,497 yards and 20 touchdowns last season after supplanting Jake Plummer with five weeks left in the 2006 season.

The 6-foot-3, 233-pound Cutler was taken by the Broncos with the 11th overall pick of the 2006 draft, becoming the first Vanderbilt player taken in the first round since 1986.

Cutler is expected to address the media on Friday.

Other athletes who have competed with diabetes include Hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Clarke, Charlotte Bobcats forward Adam Morrison, golfers Scott Verplank, Michelle McGann and Kelli Kuehne and Olympic swimmer Gary Hall Jr.

                • I actually think Felix Jones was the right pick based on what the Boys wanted to do. Then again, one can argue about the wisdom of taking, basically, a backup RB in the 1st round, but it'll give them a nice two pronged attack.

Mendenhall, I'm not sure would have been happy sharing the reigns. Jones did it all through college, so should be fine with it.

                  • Personally, I don't have a problem with the pick. I might have traded one of the picks to gather later round picks.

                    • Well, I think Jones was concerned that Tennessee would have taken him if he traded down.

                      • Well, Mendenhall will be job-sharing in Pittsburgh, too. I expect FWP is none too thrilled about it.

I think the Felix Jones pick itself was fine. It was just surprising that Mendenhall dropped past Detroit and Arizona. I was dead certain one of those two team would grab him, or someone else would trade up to that 15/17 area to do so.

                        • Detroit was surprising. I can see Arizona, though... while their offense was ok (7th in points, 12th in yards), their defensive was bad, especially the pass defense (28th in passing yards allowed)

                          • I wasn't surprised that Detroit didn't take Mendenhall. It would have made too much sense for them to pick him.

But yea... we'll see. The fans have been clamoring for the team to take Offensive Linemen and other needs instead of flashy players we want (like WRs...). So perhaps they finally listened. We got a RB in the next round who is supposed to be pretty good too. We'll see how it turns out.

                              • Report: Harrison investigated in shooting outside bar

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison is under investigation in his hometown of Philadelphia in a shooting that took place earlier this week, a source close to the investigation told Anthony Gargano of Philadelphia's WIP Radio.

The shooting reportedly occurred early Tuesday afternoon outside a North Philadelphia bar owned by Harrison.

Harrison has yet to be arrested or charged with the crime. Police spokesman Sgt. Ray Evers had no comment Friday.

"I just walked off the practice field [at rookie minicamp] and heard about the incident, and that's all I know," Colts coach Tony Dungy said Friday. "We're obviously going to look into it. I haven't spoken to Marvin yet."

Calls by ESPN to Harrison and his agent have not been returned. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league was "aware of the report, and we are looking into it."

The source said the alleged victim came into the bar, Playmakers, around 5 p.m. and engaged in an argument with Harrison, who was at the bar. The victim then left the bar, heading to his car, with Harrison following. Gunfire broke out, the victim was hit in the hand, and a young girl was slightly injured by flying glass from a car that apparently was hit by a bullet.

Police came to scene, but the victim did not identify a shooter. On Wednesday, according to the source, ballistic tests showed that the gun that had fired the shots was a custom-made Belgian weapon, and police determined that Harrison owned such a gun.

Police then went to a Philadelphia car wash owned by Harrison to question him about the gun. Harrison admitted owning such a weapon, but claimed it never left his suburban Philadelphia home.

However, the source said the gun was discovered in a bucket at the car wash, and tests showed that it had fired seven bullets that matched those found at the scene.

The source said police were contacted Friday by an attorney representing a second alleged victim in the shooting, and police are now waiting for that individual to come forward.
