    General Info

Sid Meier's Civilization: Revolution (shortened "CivRev") is a version of the Civilization series made especially for consoles. It will be released in the spring off 2008 on the Xbox360, PS3, and DS and in fall of 2008 on the Wii. There is a game core that doesn't know what platform it is on so the game should the same for each console. The outer core is what is different so only the presentation of the game should be different for each console.

    Civilization Series

For those of you who haven't had the joy of playing civ before, you begin a civilization game by picking a great civilization from history to lead. You begin in the Stone Age with a settler and one other unit. You use the settler to build your first city. In that city you can make military units to defend, conquer, and explore; buildings to improve your economy; or more settlers to build more cities. Over time you explore and meet new civilizations and research new technologies that end in the Space Age. You have several options to pick for the course of the game such as: diplomatic, economic, or conquest. No matter which you pick, there is probably a victory option for you.

    New/Changed Core Game Concepts

There is a mention of having to defeat all uncivilized nations in your area before you can progress technologically and culturally. Each civ will have its own special ability. A single game is only expected to last about 3 hours. In addition to goody huts, there will also be even greater items spread out throughout the map. These include the Seven Cities Gold, each one granting large sums of gold for discovering civ, and relics, each one granting a special ability to the civ that found it.

    - There will be a trophy room similar to the Civ2 throne room.
    - Each tile only provide 1 thing (commerce, production, or food).
    - Coast only gets commerce.
    - No Civ3 style corruption or pollution!
    - The way the tech tree works has been changed (see the technology section).
    - Culture and Happiness will be the same.
    - Science is now a raw resource (it is produced from tiles, not from a portion of your gold).

    Civs

It has been confirmed that there will be 16 civs in CivRev.

revealed: Gray Wolf (arctic), Brennos (temperate) and Norte Chico (tropical).

    Units
Can be changed due to early dev. model.

You can plays as one of 16 different civilisations in the game. From Alexander the Great, to Bismarck, to Cleopatra

    So Bismarck for Germany.

    Also:

Also, when you do something great, other civilisations recognise it and give you exotic gifts. For example, the Venetians send amazing acrobats that are doing amazing acrobatics y our trophy room. There's also dancing girls. I like those a whole lot better than the acrobats (laughs).

I'm not sure if Venetians is a minor civ... or if Tim said "Phoenicians" and it was written wrongly.

The Eight Wonders of the World are great artefacts like the pyramids, the Colossus of Rhodes. It's pretty much a race to build these things. The first person to build the pyramids is the only person that can build the pyramids. But any civilisation can build the pyramids, or the Great Wall of China, say. The wonders provide awesome powers that have been totally remixed for Civilization Revolution.

It seems there are only Eight Wonders and the Colossus is one of them.

    On technologies:

We also, of course, have the technologies, which is one of the ways that you can guide your Civilization. You have a choice between three technologies. It goes all the way from horseback riding to space flight. And this is where a lot of the replayability and depth of gameplay comes in. Each time you play the game you're not going to be able to research all the technologies, so each time you're going to have to make a hard decision on what to do.

It seems that technologies work a bit differently in Civ: Rev.

The Venetians being mentioned and the Phoenicians mentioned elsewhere do puzzle me on whether they are civs. I'll put in a reference to them since I don't think they would be full civs when there are only 16 civs.

I'm having trouble figuring out how technology works in Civ Rev with Tim's statements and Barry's statements in PolyCast 27. Barry seems to say it is better to reasearch more techs before moving on while Tim says that it is better to leave techs behind.

They need to be a bit more consistent with usage of the word "artefacts"...

I'd trust Tim to be the better strategist than Barry, though I haven't played a game with Barry ever so I'm not entirely sure. Doing QA means you have to play the game a lot, though, while Barry has lots of other things on his plate.

If the Phoenicians were mentioned elsewhere already (which I missed) I'm willing to bet a hefty sum of money that the 'Venetians' mentioned in the CVG interview are in fact Phoenicians mistranscribed. I've seen this mistake being made a couple of times before for unrelated stuff (e.g. subtitled history documentaries).

In which case a big thumbs up for Firaxis for finally doing what I've been asking for for years

I think it was the IGN prerview that mentioned Phoenicians. If the Phoenicians are in, that means that England won't be in (my list so far includes 15 civs and England isn't on it.)

Edit: I just noticed Japan was on my list twice so there is still room for England.

Having finally come across the reference to the Phoencians you mentioned (in the first article Imran posted in the previews thread ) I'm pretty convinced now that Prince Hector of Phoenicia is one of the leaders in the game (and by extension the Phoenicians one of the civs). Since both the 'Venetians' and Phoenicans are described as sending acrobats to the throne room, I don't think there can be any doubt that the 'Venetian' thing is a misunderstanding on behalf of CVG. The only question remaining is who's Prince Hector? The only historic figure by that name was Trojan AFAIK. But at least until we see evidence to the contrary I think it's safe to assume for now that Phoenicia is in the game.

Just a little note that might be worth mentioning: this is unofficial so a rumour (if relatively reliable, console games have to be certified which takes months so developers aren't tinkering until the last minute), but Amazon reports (XBox, PS3, DS, Wii) and IGN confirms (XBox, PS3, DS, Wii) that the game will released on April 28 (XBox, PS3, DS) and September 8 (Wii). Of course aside from unofficial this is subject to change, but Firaxis is usually pretty good about sticking to release dates.

Correct -- one of the Wonders is Stonehenge. In fact, it's the first one that can be built.

When we now are talking about it should we incoporate the info we have from DanQ in this thread? There is lots of info in his previews that isn't a part of the fact sheet.

    Welcome.

I updated the fact sheet slightly yesterday re: there being only one leader per civilization as noted in the latest part of my ongoing preview.

    EDIT

What do I care about your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and you shall become master of the output.

I don't remember if it was in a PolyCast , but correct re: number of Wonders.

I updated Will's post again to reflect that there are 9 promotions in CivRev, not 8. (Full details on each of these in an upcoming part of my preview! )

Well, you could just review the CivRev sections again but if not I understand.

With the new information that has come from all parts of my preview (I published the fourth just last evening), the factsheet could use a second pair of hands in updating! Waab, if you are willing to gather and even organize that information according to what Will has laid out and sent it to him via Private Messaging, I'm certain he'll use it and -- if you want -- credit you for your contributions as well.

Sure why not, if Will thinks he needs some help, it will take some time. This weekend is pretty much stuffed, Motörhead tonight and tomorrow I am playing floorball (innebandy). I will try to look trough the data availible and send Will an update some times during next week.

Should I send it like plain text (to past in the thread) or in a RTF document?

Thanks for your compilation work, waab , and to Will for applying the updates to the factsheet.

I updated the promotions mostly to note the existence of a ninth promotion whose title is still unknown -- I had forgotten the name of the "eighth" (Scout) until I read it here!

No problem, it took a little bit longer than I thought, to busy trying to have an actual life

Will reread you previews during the holidays, if I get the time, and will update it again if I find some thing new.

    Something just in.

Someone calling himself DeathMonkey on Neogaf just posted in a CivRev thread and stated that all versions will have games of the week. I don't know how true that is BUT it seems like he is somewhat working with firaxis on this.

here is the link to the thread, which I sadly can't post in yet because NeoGafs slow reg system (I want to point to apolyton ).
