To you, everyone will appear with "MOD" except other STEAM players. To them, you (and only you/other steam players) will appear with it.
It means that some game files are not identical. Hopefully it is only the Steam exe itself - and not something more serious in the Steam distribution.
It (could) also indicate that someone has different XML files or somesuch - either cheating or messed up their installation (I have that problem with warlords, need to eventually reinstall that).

FF, there is a different EXE. However, Direct2Drive also has a different EXE. I don't think the EXE itself is checked by the mod check. Something else is up with the Steam install; hopefully it's something benign, and not an incorrect version file or something.
Once everyone's connected i'll get Ms Snoopy to draw some names out of hats, out of the full BtS leaderset.

I'm not even sure which ones from BtS are unbalanced. Perhaps replace those with balanced Warlord civs and then do the whole first-log on first served thing?
