Umm. Well it depends. They're mostly codependent.

Philosophy is far more important since it speaks to the nature of reality, morality, what we *should* do...the fact that most of these things are either dependent on philosophical development or spun off from such demonstrates this.

    Currently

    Maths not,
mathematicians are important, as trainers, to give engineers, chemists, architects etc etc the math elements they need to do their job, but maths alone not..

    Physics are past their prime...

Economics is about as scientific as astrology..

Computer science and biology/medicine are the most worthwhile nowadays.. the sciences of the XXI century

Eh. Most of them are really variations on similar themes, or different applications of the same skills.

    Math.

And the question is: Which is more worthwhile.

Its the base of everything in that poll...except for medicine, if you dont count volumes of fluid, quantites/mix of medication and such.

Yeah, I spent the day learning how to design basic microwave frequency components and one just can't avoid seeing Schopenhauer in every equation.

IIRC math was once defined a part of the philosophy branch.

Until it became part of the applied sciences.

    1. Agriculture/Food Industry
    2. Sanitation
    3. Construction
    4. Police/Defense
    5. Education (3 R's)

So I guess engineering gets the top billing in this poll.

Perhaps the definitions I used are not so good.

What I mean is that until the latest important revolutions in physics, chemistry and biology, math had very little practical application.

Math, Philosophy and Music were all considered part of the same group of topics in the middle ages.

It is only after the scientific discoveries of the renaissance, and the developement of practical uses for science, requiring mathematical skills, that math and philosophy went on seperate ways.

Still math has philosophy at its base.
The definition and meaning of 1 is philosophical in essense.

Cretin. Spinoza's philosophy is an immanentist cosmology. Not to say that Einstein necessarily had it right, but it *had* something to do.
