When I was three years old we had a long-haired guinea pig named Buster Brown, but I was allergic to it and so my parents "brought it to the vet and gave it to a new home." Ten years later I remembered this incident and thought "wait a minute - nobody is going to want a used guinea pig." I brought my suspicions to my older brother, who reached the same conclusion. We confronted our parents, who said "well yeah, of course we put it to sleep," and my brother and I were distraught for an hour or two.

By put it to sleep did they mean gave it to a Peruvian family to boil alive for dinner?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

A decade after that I was rethinking my "nobody would want a used guinea pig" assertion, and realized that a Peruvian might want a used guinea pig
