Not sure about numbers in all of these -- best guesses:
    Classics (6?)
    Double blind (6?)
    Jane (6?)
    Mesopotamia (7)
    Europe in Flames (7)
Team PBEM (soon to be ^^) (8, or maybe 6)

    That's a total of ... 5 games.

Not quite Beta's total, and certainly not Paddy's, but still not bad ^^

Number of PBEM games played to completion:
Nada ... although a couple might not be far, depending on how people play the endgame (or middlegame)...

List your top 3 favourite PBEM games:
    Hrrrm. Tough call.

Fast Game - has to be my favorite just because it's fast and, starting from 4000 bc, we're almost in AD already (a few months later of course ... 4 months maybe?) ... and i got a Texas-sized piece of real estate in an Islands (random) start ... Only thing holding me back ... no saltpeter, and only 2 single luxuries (in a 3 player game!).

Mesopotamia -- took over for ... dunno whom, but a pretty exciting game, moving along nicely ...

Early and Often -- pretty fast moving too, and I got lucky again with real estate and this time i also got the resources ...

A close 4th would have to be Naval PBEM, which is just cool because we got an advanced start (well, I *gave* us an advanced start, designing the map and the scenario ) and thus is pretty complex.

I notice I buck the trend here and play way more 2-4 player than 5-8 player ... guess I like the fast moving games ...

Conmcb: ICAA is a 4 player game. Unless there are players I don't know about? ^^

Re: Re: OFFICIAL 2004 CENSUS - Apolyton PBEM Forum

Heh, this seems like a common theme lately. Games vs. Beta and/or Paddy. Here are mine:

    - "AU601": 2 player directly vs. Beta

    - "The Grapes of Rhoth": 4 player with both Paddy and Beta

    - "Seafaring": 7 player with neither

    - "Mesopotamia": 7 player with both Paddy and Beta

    - "The Grand Passage": 5 player with both Paddy and Beta

    - "Youth In Asia 2": 7 player with Beta (the first one had Beta in it too)

    - "IDG Blue Team": 5 player with neither

    - "Random Random": 7 player with Beta

    - "Gunboat Diplomacy": 7 player with Beta

So that's 9 current PBEMs I'm a part of. Beta is in 7 of them. Paddy is in 3 of them.

If I had signed up for the restart of Balderdash and the start of C3C Classics (instead of making evil maps for them to play ) then it would be 11 PBEMs with Beta in 9 of them.

Ahhh... will post on this when I have the time to look through my PBEMs and figure out the player numbers for them all.

I haven't seen any of the the 5 or so I am in for most of a month now.

Rhoth - you know the amazing thing - I just counted and yes - I am in the same number of games with you. Seven. Wow! Is that a coincidence, or what?

Number of 5-8 player games you are involved in:
    I'm in seven:
    Europe in Flames PBEM
    MZO AoD4 PBEM
    Seafaring #1

I only have one and by your rules it doesn't count because it was at MZO, not Apolyton. I won the AoD1 PBEM at MZO as England.

Only PBEM I've ever completed, though.

That said, My record is, technically, 1-0-0!

List your top 3 favourite PBEM games:
    1. Europe in Flames PBEM - this despite having the worst starting area I have EVER seen in a PBEM game. The game actually moves quickly and I got to conquer the Spanish in the first 30 turns because he didn't defend his capital. Even if I lose the game because my start stinks, it'll be fun! It's by far the fastest game I've ever been in... clocking in at 2.09 days/turn and an astounding 7.2 hours/player!

    2. MZO AoD1 PBEM - not only is this the only PBEM game I have ever seen completed, but I won it! It moved really quickly, too! At 2.27 days/turn (10.9 hours/player), it wasn't so bad!

    3. ISDG FAM #4 - Not counting democracy games, this is the PBEM that has progressed the most TURNS of any I have ever played. This game started on October 20, 2003 and is currently in 390 BC (Turn 109). That's an average of 2.5 days/turn (~12 hours/player), counting some rather enormous gaps in play (including right now because one of the players was hit by Hurricane Charley).

As for DEAD PBEMs, there are several:

MZO Team PBEM - died before it even made it out of the first turn

Balderdash PBEM - I see others have already complained about this here. GhengisFarb single-handedly killed earlier attempts at a Balderdash PBEM at least twice, but it was finally Darekill (I think) that killed the third and most long-running attempt.

MZO Epic #1 - Master Zen, Slayer of PBEM games, is at fault here.

FAM #5 - Master Zen, Slayer of PBEM Games, again at fault.

MZO AoD5 PBEM - This one recently died due to collective apathy toward it. I have to take my share of the blame for causing that because it was after my own absence that people decided to just let it die rather than continuing. That said, it was Rhothaerill's decision to quit the game that was the last nail in its coffin.

    2-4 player games - involved in 1

Iron Civer Tournament - Coliseum B
    4 players, playing as Scandinavia
Status: Active, at 1150 BC (with jshelr)
    0.63 tuns/day, 9.6 hours pp

    5-8 player games - involved in 6

    PTW Classics PTW
    6 players, playing as Rome
Status: fast, Active at 1100 BC (with sabrewolf)
    0.93 turns/day, 4.3 hours pp

    Europe in Flames 1.22
7 players, 6 left, playing as the Dutch
Status: picking up speed, Active at 2070 BC (with beta)
    0.35 turns/day, 11.5 hours pp

    European C3C PBEM 1.15
6 players, playing as the Inca's
Status: slow but steady, Active at 1575 BC (save somewhere in between Sensei & Andydog)
    0.30 turns/day, 13.5 hours pp

    In the Mood 1.22
6 players, playing as Rome, if I remember correctly
Status: slow and Stalled at 2760BC as of July 15 due to: disappearance of Rasputin (save with rasputin)
0.22 turns/day, 18.4 hours pp (leaving out the time it took to get started, as 2 players, of the initial 8, didn't even make the first turn)

    Random-Random PBEM 1.22
7 players, playing as the German
Status: slow but active, at 1525 BC (with slightly madman)
    0.23 turns/day, 15.0 hours pp

    Silent PBEM: Gunboat Diplomacy 1.22
7 players, playing as the Dutch
Status: very slow but active, at 2950 BC (with slightly madman)
    0.17 turns/day, 20.1 hours pp

    Favourite Games
A game is fun when it moves fast, in which way I feel more involved. When I have to wait for a week for a turn I need some time to get back into the game (even if I make some notes). A lot of interaction with the other players add to the joy of a game.

    1. ironB - a lot of action initiated by an early SoZ for bongo
    2. classics - minor player, great speed and a laugh because of sabrewolf's iron source.
    3. flames - picking up speed, difficult starting location

    Finished Games
    none

You know, I don't think I'm in a PBEM with Paddy either.

We need to start a special PBEM with Paddy and those of us who don't have a PBEM with him.

1 finished PBEM (***PBEM***; 4 players)

    5 dead PBEM's (ISDG PBEM #1-5; 5-6 players)

    4 ongoing PBEM's (Create-a-Civ=7 players, Balderdash #2=7 players, Classics=6 players, Tournament Game #4=4 players)

There are also a number of PBEM's I'm in that get tracked at MZO or are just not really tracked, but are played when connected to a IRC room.

Clarification is required - I noticed Gamecube has classified "All Day Round" as "5-8 players". It's actually 4 players with 2 civs each, so I classified it as a 4 player game.

    A ruling please, Sir Beta
It is a four player game. I will amend Gamecube's stats.

    2-4 players

Split Personality - 4 players each with 2 civs

    4-8 players

The Sundowners - 8 players starting with extra settlers
Artificial Selection - 7 players, starting from one of 4 starts that we all ranked
Additional Selection - spin off of the above, same players, just the runner up start save
    Bogor to the slaughter - 6 players...er I guess b/c he's a n00b too

I beleive that's all, 'cept for the dead ISDG#2 And none are done all are still ancient era & pre AD! Can't say as I have a favorite just yet, as they are all so young - now if it was AC PBEM... ^^ V
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

    Results So Far

    Speaking of numbers and coincidences:

22 people have filled out the census so far.

They are involved in a total of 110 two-to-four person games for an average of exactly 5.00.

They are involved in a total of 132 four-to- eight player games for an average of exactly 6.00.

That gives an average of 11.00 games per person.

The average for completed games is 1.68.

And there are some trends emerging for favourite games. AU601 got five votes, but that is clearly more than one game. The most popular single game so far is All Day Round with 4 votes, followed by Grand Passage and Mesopotamea with 3 each. A number of games have two votes each.

Please encourage those that have not filled out the census to do so. I thank those that have filled out the census so far:
