Greeks own the mid game, but can be caught with their pants down early.
Spain has probably the best gunpowder age army, as they can have arqs and the only ranged heavy inf in the game (during gunpowder). Arqs/tercs are at such a huge advantage over arqs/hknights, an advantage no other nation can match.
Russians are a mixed bag to me... seems like they are nearly impenetrable at times, but also seem like they are hard to be aggresive with.
