I have a top notch machine, but had sound lockups in RoN. It was driving me nuts. Everything was up to date and no off-brand parts are being used. Turned out that the Audigy and the SB Digital VCR card (TV Tuner / recorder) were conflicting. Disabled the DigitalVCR card from DevMan and all is right as rain. Played for hours and hours without issues, whereas the problem would arise in about 5 minutes with both cards enabled.
Creative Labs didn't have a solution for the problem.
