No comment on the studies cited by wiki? This is hardly a hot button issue where partisans run around editing the wiki pages.

As for Gov Barbour, I think he's unelectable for POTUS. More's the pity. Despite the southern baggage, he's a good leader at a time when we need more leadership and less charisma.

One look at Spanish language soap operas confirms that white looking Hispanics are held in much higher esteem socially then native looking or black looking Hispanics. Hell, even if I didn't have direct experience with Mexico and Central America (mostly Panama and Costa Rica) telling me that girls from those areas prefer light skinned guys (especially if they have blue or green eyes with blonde or red hair) popular local language media would tell me that. If you were born a black woman and you had to learn the hard way that even other black men preferred white chicks to black chicks then you might get militant & insecure about it too.

Gribbler, this is anecdotal but my personal experience is that black men are fine with marrying white women while most whites don't care one way or the other (if other whites marry blacks or Asians or Hispanics or native Americans) but Black women seem to take a huge exception to white women marrying black men. Their thinking goes there are only so many "good" black men and all to many of those seem to prefer white women when they get a chance; that leaves fewer "good" black men for black women forcing them to accept less good black men or even bad black men if they don't want to marry outside of their race. Yes, obviously some black men also have feel the taboo about marrying white women other wise there wouldn't be such a high rejection of intermarriage by blacks as a whole. That said, black men (especially financially successful black men) are way more willing to marry outside of their race, on average, then black women are.

I think that's part of a long term historical theme of bias in American history. White women were held up to be the most desirable of all females while black women were seen a playthings for white men or for black men who couldn't do better (like get a lighter skinned mate [one of the elusive light skinned black women] or best of all a white woman but failing that an Asian or other nonblack mate). There is a ton of research about how even black men prefer light skinned black women to dark skinned black women and white women above both and I think that has left a historical mark just as similar thinking has left a legacy in Latin America. Hell, even South Asians and East Asians have a bias towards lighter skinned mates so talk about internalizing foreign racism.

This is somewhat of a tangent and based on my own observations, it's just rare to see an Indians who marry outside of their own castes or religious orders let alone outside of their race. There are tons of small insular groups like the Anglo-Indians (descendants of British men who married local women) and Parsees (descendants of 7th century Zoroastrian refuges) who basically never marry outside of their communities.

Probably because it takes a long time to clean and analyze the data.

Eh, at least white southerns allow African-Americans to go to the same schools as their kids and let them live in the same neighborhoods. Unlike whites in other parts of the country who segregate themselves in white enclaves.

For once Lion-Kevin is right and we should see a break down by race among Mississippians.

According to the theory of evolution we are distant relatives of all other life forms, including plants, so I guess I am equal in value to a tree?
Also, since we're distant relatives of other animals, I guess I should be allowed to marry a penguin.

    English: New Revised Standard Version
    Leviticus 25
    44. As for the male and female slaves whom you may have, it is from the nations around you that you may acquire male and female slaves.
    45. You may also acquire them from among the aliens residing with you, and from their families that are with you, who have been born in your land; and they may be your property.
    46. You may keep them as a possession for your children after you, for them to inherit as property. These you may treat as slaves, but as for your fellow Israelites, no one shall rule over the other with harshness

Doesn't sound like equality to me

Haven't we already established Christians just make **** up to fit whatever they believe. I showed you that information from some "Anglo-Israeli" site that cited all the verses that they believed showed God's opposition to miscegenation.
